Heating and Cooling (HVAC) typically account for over 50% of an average U.S. home's annual energy consumption, making it the largest energy expense. In Commercial buildings, HVAC can run as high as 58%. Simply by opening up a building to the South, 76% of direct solar energy can be collected. Compared with an average conversion rate of 18% to 23% by converting sunlight into electricity with solar panels. With long-distance loss through power lines, these losses can even be as high as 5-10%, sometimes affecting overall efficiency. With wind and solar only creating 17% of energy last year, it seems obvious we need more efficient methods.
The crisis in our democracy did not happen overnight, nor will it be solved by the next election. The fact that wealth inequality has not improved in over 100 years points to the failure of our democracy.
